IEEE History
IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization. Our story touches every facet of engineering and technology.
IEEE’s roots reach back to the 19th century. Scientists and engineers had harnessed electrical power; connected the world via transatlantic telegraph; and built ringing telephones and lights with switches. Electricity was gaining global influence. In the spring of 1884, a group of industry professionals met in New York, USA. They agreed on a goal: They would use their knowledge and influence to benefit humanity.
The Meaning of IEEE
