Volunteering

Expand your network, grow as a leader, and make a difference in your industry and community. Volunteer with IEEE.

Volunteers play a key role in the fabric of our IEEE community—and the benefits of volunteering go beyond the reward of making a meaningful impact. For those starting out, you can expand your network, develop technical skills, and gain leadership experience. More senior or retired members can share their expertise, help shape Society or committee policy, and mentor the next generation. Here’s how to find the opportunity that’s right for you.

How Do You Want to Get Involved?

Ways to volunteer

    Jump In Locally

Mentor the next generation. Sign up for projects with your local Chapter or Section, such as mentoring high-school students or young professionals.

Engage new members. Offer to represent IEEE at job fairs and college open houses.

Work group events. Set up, check in attendees, or organize an event.

Network and learn. Assist at a technical meeting to connect with leaders in your specialty.

    Play a Visible Role

Connect with VIPs. Offer to serve as a guide to a technology conference attendee in your area.

Communicate your ability. Help edit a newsletter, review journal articles, or maintain a local IEEE website.

Stand at the front. Coordinate a conference, chair a committee, or lead a Chapter.

    Help Out Organizationally

Assist volunteers. Take on an official position within IEEE’s volunteer structure. Plan events or train new members.

Join a Society. You’ll be able to volunteer with peers and leaders in your technical field.

Volunteer your vision. Self-nominate for a role that will let you impact the future direction of your local IEEE group—or our international organization.

Serve on an awards committee. Volunteer to evaluate award candidates and honor members’ achievements.
